Redevelopment Agency

 

The ordinance creating the agency states:

There is hereby created a redevelopment agency for the Town in accordance with Section 8-126 of the Connecticut General Statutes, Revision of 1958, as amended, said agency to be known as the "Wethersfield Redevelopment Agency." The Agency shall have all the powers and duties now or hereafter provided for redevelopment agencies by the Connecticut General Statutes, subject to the limitations on the exercise of the power of eminent domain established by §12.1 of the Code of Ordinances, as the same may be amended from time to time.

Mission Statement

To promote the redevelopment and revitalization of the limited available commercial lands and buildings in Wethersfield in ways which implement the Town's Plan of Conservation and Development. To achieve redevelopment and revitalization through partnerships with property owners, tenants, potential developers, and state, federal and regional government agencies. To pursue actions that will leverage private investment, increase property values, create quality development, and provide entrepreneurial and employment opportunities.

June, 2008 Public Forum

June, 2011 Consultants' Reports

Real estate consultants Bartram & Cochran of Hartford prepared two reports, drafts of which were provided for discussion at a June 20, 2011 Town Council meeting. One report presents a redevelopment plan for 1000 Silas Deane Highway, and the other report gives a market analysis of sites located at 976 through 1060 Silas Deane Highway.

In accordance with Chapter 130 of the Connecticut General Statutes the Wethersfield Redevelopment Agency will be hosting a Special Meeting and Public Hearing on the Redevelopment Plan for 1000 Silas Deane Highway on Tuesday evening August 30, 2011 at 7 p.m. at Wethersfield Town Hall, 505 Silas Deane Highway, Council Chambers. Interested persons may appear and written comments will be received. July 2011, Berlin Turnpike/Nott Street Redevelopment Plan

This redevelopment plan provides for the creation of a mixed use retail and residential development at the intersection of the Berlin Turnpike and Nott Street, including the construction of three new buildings, combining 152 residential apartments and 7,000 square feet of retail space.

Meeting Schedule

The Wethersfield Redevelopment Agency typically meets on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 5 p.m. in Conference Room 1 in the ground level of the Town Hall, 505 Silas Deane Highway, unless otherwise posted. The Agency's meeting minutes are available online.
