ERINYS QUARTET

Named for the Erinyes (a.k.a. the Furies) from the Greek tragedy Oresteia by Aeschylus, and with roots in Estonia, Lithuania, Greece, the United States and Finland, the Erinys Quartet was founded in 2018 at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki where they worked closely with cellist Marko Ylönen. Since Autumn 2025 Erinys has been the graduate string quartet-in-residence at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana.

Erinys Quartet was awarded the First Prize at the 2025 Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition in Norway. At the Bad Tölz International String Quartet Competition in 2023 they received the Audience Prize, as well as the Esterházy Foundation Special Prize. They also won the Bronze Medal at the 2024 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.

Since 2021 Erinys Quartet has been supported by Le Dimore del Quartetto where they are also a part of the European Union-sponsored MERITA platform.

In the 2025-26 season the Erinys Quartet presented concerts throughout the United States and Europe, including debuts at the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society and the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland. They also performed throughout the United States, as part of Curtis on Tour, with pianist Michelle Cann, violist Roberto Díaz, and cellist Peter Wiley.

In addition to their studies at Indiana University with the Pacifica Quartet, Erinys Quartet holds a diploma in string quartet from the Curtis Institute of Music, where they studied with the Dover Quartet, and they completed a diploma in chamber music at Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, Spain under the tutelage of Professor Günter Pichler of the Alban Berg Quartet.

OSKAR ESPINA RUIZ, CLARINET

Oskar Espina Ruiz has emerged as one of the leading clarinetists of his generation, praised as a concerto soloist at the Casals Festival for his “masterful virtuosity” (El Nuevo Día, Puerto Rico), and admired for his “rhapsodic ease” and “generous, tender warmth” (The Millbrook Independent) in chamber music collaborations with the top string quartets and piano trios of our time.

Highlights of recent seasons include his sold-out concert tour of Spain with Terra String Quartet in 2026; his Casals Festival debut as soloist with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra in the world premiere of Alfonso Fuentes’ Clarinet Concerto; a Music Mountain performance of the complete Brahms Clarinet Sonatas with pianist Misha Dichter; as well as his recital program, Brilliant American Women Composers of Our Time, with works by Teresa Carreño, Amy Beach, Gabriela Lena Frank, Eleanor Alberga, Jessie Montgomery, Joan Tower, Jennifer Higdon, and Claudia Montero. His Clarinet Quintet Project in three parts at Music Mountain in 2026 included premieres of quintets by Alfonso Fuentes, Seth Grosshandler and Javier Montiel in collaborations with the Erinys, Ulysses and Cassatt Quartets.

Since 2011, Oskar Espina Ruiz is clarinet artist-faculty at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, in Winston-Salem, NC.
